Officials of UNESCO and a delegation of Republic of Korea visited Wudalianchi Geopark

Mr. Han Qunli, Secretary of MAB Program and Director of Division of Ecological and Earth Science, UNESCO; Hans, Program Specialist, UNESCO Beijing Office and a delegation of Republic of Korea gave a field trip to Wudalianchi from 7th August to 12th August.

The delegation inspected each scenic areas and expressed their great interest in well-preserved volcanic landscapes and biodiversity. Mr. Han expressed his praise on the work since Wudalianchi joined the MAB and GGN, and the achievements on conservation, scientific research and development. He also gave some advices on balancing the relation between conservation and development under the guideline of conservation priority and sustainable development and strengthening the cooperation with other members.

Dr. Lee, chief research fellow of Division of Natural Resources Conservation of Korea National Geopark Committee spoke highly of the spectacle volcanic landscapes and would encourage more and more Korean to visit here. Dr. Jeon, World Natural Heritage Management Department of Jeju Island had a deep impression on diversified volcanic geology and geomorphology and interpretation system. Journalists from Halla Daily videoed for Wudalianchi and interviewed the officer of MAB and geopark staff on tourism advantages and geopark management. Two geoparks exchanged leaflets and mascots in the meeting and shared views on sustainable geotoursim and management experience.
