Representative of Hong Kong Global Geopark visited the Marble Arch Caves Global Geopark in Northern Ireland, the English Riviera Global Geopark in the United Kingdom, the Bergstrasse-Odenwald Global Geopark and Vulkaneifel Global Geopark in Germany during 29 March – 6 April 2013.

Dr. KM Yeung, Senior Geopark Officer of Hong Kong Global Geopark, visited the geosites, museum and visitor centres of these geoparks, including the new museum of Messel Pit World Heritage Site. The artistic and interactive exhibits of the visitor centres and museums have given many new perspectives and ideas on planning and development of display and exhibits.

The European geoparks also introduced the many local engagement projects and showcased a close working relationship with the local communities. The support from the local mayors and councils is of high relevance to Hong Kong Geopark.

During the visit, Dr. Yeung also shared the latest science popularization initiatives of Hong Kong Geopark, including a multi-language “Handbook for Geopark Guides”, and an electronic book promoting all 27 global geoparks of China.

The visit has enabled a fruitful exchange of the latest initiatives and plans among Hong Kong Geopark and the four European geoparks, and drawn inspirations from each other’s work and achievements.
