The Association of European Border Regions (AEBR) has attributed a ‘Certificate for Special Achievement’ to the Marble Arch Caves Geopark (Ireland). The significance of the Award is great with sponsorship from the European Parliament, and honors solutions of the Marble Arch Caves Geopark in addressing cross border challenges and encouraging others to undertake similar innovative initiatives.

The Association of European Border Regions (AEBR) General Assembly and Annual Conference 2009 was held in the city of Ghent, capital of the province of East Flanders, Belgium from 5th - 7th November. The focus of the conference this year was “Cross-Border Cooperation after 2013: Regional answers to current European challenges”.

During the event, the Irish Central Border Area Network (ICBAN) received Certificates for ‘Special Achievement in Cross Border Cooperation’ for the extension of the Marble Arch Global Geopark from County Fermanagh (Northern Ireland) into County Cavan (Republic of Ireland).

ICBAN presented the Certificates to Councillors from Fermanagh District Council and Cavan County Council at the Networking Dinner held 18 September 2009 evening in the Hillgrove Hotel, Monaghan (as part of the Joint Networking Seminar of the Local Government INTERREG Groups for Ireland/Northern Ireland).
