Then join this Autumn's geology course (7 evening classes + 1 fieldtrip).
A general introduction to geology, mineralogy and fossils.

Topics studied will include:

- Our dynamic Earth: earthquakes and internal layering of Earth
- Continental drift, plate tectonics and volcanoes
- Minerals and crystals - Mining and industrial minerals
- Gems quality minerals - The formation and identification of gems (diamond, sapphire, ruby and many others)
- The rock cycle
- Geological time and the fossil record - From corals to dinosaurs to early Man
- The geology of South East Ireland

ALL WELCOME...No previous knowledge required, just a healthy curiosity about the Earth and how it works.

The course will be run by Tina Keating, the Copper Coast Geopark Geologist.

Location: Coláiste Chathail Naofa / Dungarvan V.E.C., Youghal Road, Dungarvan, Co. Waterford.

Date: The course will start on Tuesday 27th October 2009. Classes will take place every Tuesday night, 7.30pm - 9.30pm for 7 weeks and a fieldtrip will be organised on the Copper Coast (day confirmed at a later stage, tide dependant)
