Led by staff from the North Pennines AONB Partnership and Durham County Council, the walk will allow people to discover more of the fascinating history, life and nature of the North Pennine dales.

The walk is classed as moderately difficult, with some stiles and uneven surfaces. Outdoor clothing and boots are required. Bus fare from the meeting place at Westgate to Ireshopeburn and refreshments are included as part of the free event. Walkers will meet at 10am at Westgate before taking public transport to Ireshopeburn to start the walk back down Weardale.

Places are limited - call 0191 383 7421 to book a place or for further information.

Bursting back to life

Simon Wilson, Area Coordinator for the North Pennines AONB Partnership, who will be leading the walk said: "Weardale has an incredibly intricate history and much of the way the Dale looks and its natural beauty is a legacy of that history and the work of the people who live here now. The lambing period is an ideal time to visit Weardale as it bursts back to life after the winter."
