Walkers can enjoy all the sights, sounds and scents of spring in the North Pennines when they sign up to a free guided walk through scenic Weardale running on Friday 17th April. The North Pennines AONB Partnership is inviting people to sign up on a springtime guided walk of discovery in Weardale on Friday 17th April, following the Weardale Way from Ireshopeburn in the upper dale to Westgate. The event is part of Visit Durham's Outdoor and Active Week, which is co-ordinated by the County Durham Tourism Partnership. Led by staff from the North Pennines AONB Partnership and Durham County Council, the walk will allow people to discover more of the fascinating history, life and nature of the North Pennine dales.
The walk is classed as moderately difficult, with some stiles and uneven surfaces. Outdoor clothing and boots are required. Bus fare from the meeting place at Westgate to Ireshopeburn and refreshments are included as part of the free event. Walkers will meet at 10am at Westgate before taking public transport to Ireshopeburn to start the walk back down Weardale.

Bursting back to life
Simon Wilson, Area Coordinator for the North Pennines AONB Partnership, who will be leading the walk said: "Weardale has an incredibly intricate history and much of the way the Dale looks and its natural beauty is a legacy of that history and the work of the people who live here now. The lambing period is an ideal time to visit Weardale as it bursts back to life after the winter."
