Commonly, Earth Sciences are considered by the public as a very special and complicated issue, connected with the past and rather unimportant for the presence. Only few special and spectacular topics like volcanism or Earth quakes reach a broader audience.

Since the last decade, the potential of Earth history as educational and discovery tool as well as part of a sustainable touristic approach has been discovered and developed by Geoparks.

Geoparks are territories with a unique combination of Earth history, natural history and culture. They are dedicated to providing new ways of enjoying nature, discovering the landscape and generating and strengthening an interest in the history and in the future of our planet.

The Geopark Bergstrasse-Odenwald has developed educational tools to understand, how the Earth has changed over millions of years and in which way this development is connected with nature and human beings until today ? and in the future.
In this regard, a broad communication strategy, combined with visitor service and information as well as Geopark events have been implemented. These Geopark events are considered as communicative and experimental playground for the public to discover the fascination of "Geo". Additionally, they are platforms for the presentation of cooperation projects with the geoscience community like universities, museums and associations.

Earth sciences as an interdisciplinary and ongoing discovery into constantly changing environment, time and space can be the link between the Earth and the people.
