Mount Elephant near Derrinallum, will come alive to the sounds of children’s voices when 100 students from Buninyong Primary School arrive at 10.30am on Friday 12 September to become entranced by the legends of Mount Elephant and to learn about the newly recognised UNESCO Kanawinka Global Geopark.

Joane McKnight Director of the Kanawinka Global Geopark will be telling them about the exciting new global phenomena, Global Geoparks and how they can be involved with schools around the World

Lesley Brown from Mount Elephant Community Management will be telling the story of the eruption of Mt Elephant and the vision for the mountain.

Paul Wright will be re creating the dream time story of Mt Elephant and Mt Buninyong

The children will undertake an exploration of a plot of the mountain - identifying and describing the life and things they find in a small area

Barry Peters will be conducting a preliminary song writing session with each of the groups

This day of culture and learning is an important part of the UNESCO Manifesto for Global Geoparks to engage people of all ages in the history and culture of the geology of the Global Geopark.
