Geopark Bergstrasse - Odenwald in Hessen, Germany is mainly characterized by red sandstone that has similarities with the quartze sandstone in Zhangjiajie Geopark. Hessen of Germany is a friendship state of Hunan Province of China. These two geoparks became friendship parks, coming to an agreement about information exchange, staff training, academic research and other issues in 2006.
