'Northern Rocks' - the North Pennines Festival of Geology and Landscape ran between 24 May and 8 June 2008. This annual festival, which coincides with European Geoparks Week, celebrates the special geological heritage of the North Pennines Area of Oustanding Natural Beauty (AONB) and UNESCO European Geopark, which is in northern England, UK. Events included guided walks in the hills, underground tours exploring the area's old lead mines, rock climbing, craft events, children's activities, exhibitions, workshops and talks. Geodiversity Officer Dr Elizabeth Pickett said: ''The festival was a great success and we are getting excellent feedback. People came from across the UK to discover more about the fantastic geology and landscape of the North Pennines''.
